Junior Horsemanship

At Twin View Stables we will teach the troop directly from the Junior Horseback Riding Badge Requirements book.  We offer the opportunity to learn both English and Western riding so the troop will have a full understanding of both disciplines. 


It will take a minimum of 2 hours.
Cost $25- minimum $250 per group

 
Activity 1: Know the Basics of Horseback Riding
  • The difference between Western- and English- style riding
  • Different types of horse breeds
  • Types of horse riding equipment.
  • The best riding gear for you

Activity 2: Take Care of a Horse and Learn About Safety
  • Grooming a horse
    • What types of brushes
    • Hoof care
  • How to be safe around horses
    • How do you approach a horse
    • Where’s the safest place to stand
  • How to clean a stall
  • How to feed a horse
  • Anatomy of a horse
  • Horse Facial Expressions
 
Activity 3: Prepare for Your Ride
  • How to lead a horse
  • Tie a horse
  • How to saddle and bridles a horse
  • Mount and dismount your horse

 Activity 4: Practice Your Ride
  • What it means to have good form
  • Order of speed
  • How to coax the horse into motion
  • How to use the reins to steer your horse to walk around a ring
  • How to turn a horse and how to stop a horse
 
Activity 5: Go on a Ride (only if child demonstrated enough skill)
  • How to walk your horse with control
  • How to trot with ease
  • How to control your horse’s speed
